A soaring California condor, North America’s largest land bird with a wing span of nearly 10 feet and weight up to 26 pounds. This bird was brought back from the edge of extinction with only twenty-two left alive but through protection and a captive breeding program, now over 200 condors soar over the skies of southern and central California and another 179 live in captivity.
