This shows the initial blast of explosives used to begin taking down the Embrey Dam in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on February 23, 2003, to restore the fish passage for several species in the Rappahannock River. Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will monitor population levels of American shad, which have been declining for several years. Other species expected to benefit include Hickory shad, herring and eel.
