U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo shows outline of Po;lar Island as it will appear in the Chesapeake Bay when restoration is complete. The Island, which originally consisted of more than 1000 acres, eroded down to less than 10 acres. Restoration using dredgefill from the Baltimore shipping channel will pump the islands’s size back to nearly 1,700 acres, providing a major refuge for fish and for wildlife.
