NOAA DEEP DISCOVERER over tar lily - operated from NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER. During a dive on sonar anomalies suspected to be a shipwreck, the ROV instead discovered the remants of asphalt volcanoes, or “tar lilies.” After documenting the first asphalt extrusion, the DEEP DISCOVERER investigated another anomaly which also was a “tar lily.”
