Marine archaeologists from NOAA and the state of Alaska conducted a survey in May of the wreck of the former U.S. Coast Survey Steamer Hassler, built in 1871 for the Coast Survey and named for its first superintendent. Diver Hans van Tilburg, NOAA maritime archaeologist, explores the wreck site.
