"Karluk Weir - red salmon passing over counting board while U.S. FWS employees count them." The man with his hands on his hips is Richard F. Shuman, the person who took many Karluk photos. At the time, Shuman was in charge of Karluk sockeye salmon reseach. Later in his FWS career, Shuman died in a plane accident in SE Alaska. Mt Shuman at Karluk Lake is named for him.
