FWS PERSONNEL CHECK INCOMING WILDLIFE. FWS inspectors check in-coming shipments of wildlife to ensure that the animals, fish, plants and their products contained are properly documented and not violating any U.S. laws protecting endangered or threatened species. The Lacey Act is one such federal law that prohibits the import, export, transport, sale receipt, acquisition, or purchase of fish, wildlife or plants in interstate or foreign commerce that were taken, possessed, transported, or sold in violation of State, tribal, foreign, or U.S. laws. This act also makes it unlawful to transport certain fish and wildlife under inhumane or unhealthful conditions.
