HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii—Firefighters from the 15th Airlift Wing fire department enter a C-130 Hercules with a simulated flash fire as part of initial response readiness exercise here. The exercise, held Oct. 17, marks the first time the base used an actual C-130 Hercules and aircrew to increase the training’s realism. The wing’s search and rescue team also took part, entering the aircraft—from the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 154th Wing—to retrieve and process “bodies.” The exercise also tested the interaction between the two wings.
